The agreement between you and Swift when you book a ride.
1. Who you are agreeing with
These terms are an agreement between you and soSwift Rides, operating in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria (“Swift”, “we”, “us”). They apply every time you open the Swift rider app, book a ride, or pay through Swift.
By tapping “I have read and agree”, or by continuing to use Swift after these terms take effect, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please stop using Swift and contact us to close your account.
2. What Swift is, and what it is not
Swift is a technology platform. It introduces you to independent drivers who operate their own vehicles, and it handles the booking, the price agreement, the payment and the record of the trip.
Swift does not own vehicles, does not employ drivers, and is not a transport or taxi company. The transport itself is provided by the driver, who decides whether to accept your booking and is responsible for the journey.
In plain terms: we connect you to a driver and hold the money until the ride is settled. The driver drives.
3. Who can use Swift
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract.
You must give us accurate details — your real name, an email address you control, and a phone number a driver can reach you on. Accounts with false details can be suspended.
One person, one account. Your account is yours: do not share your password, your sign-in code, or your device session with anyone else. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
We may ask you to upload a government-issued ID. We ask for this when a driver reports a rider, and it protects the people who get into a car with you. Uploading it is optional at signup and can be required later before you book again.
4. Where Swift works
Swift operates in Aba, Abia State. Both your pickup and your destination must fall within roughly 25km of the centre of Aba, and no single trip may exceed 40km.
A booking outside that area is refused rather than priced. This is a deliberate guard: place names in Aba can resolve to addresses in other states, and a wrongly-matched address has produced a fare many times what the journey was worth.
5. How the price is agreed
Swift does not set your fare. You do.
- You enter your pickup and destination, and Swift shows you the distance.
- You name the price you are willing to pay for that trip.
- Swift shows you the drivers who are online and how far away each one is, along with the minimum each one accepts.
- You send your offer to a driver. They have 2 minutes to accept it.
- If they do not accept in time, you are told, and you can offer again or choose someone else.
Drivers set their own minimum per-kilometre rate, within a band Swift enforces — currently between ₦300 and ₦1,000 per kilometre. An offer below a driver's own floor will not reach them.
The fare you agree is the fare you pay. Swift does not apply surge pricing, and does not change an agreed fare after the fact.
A discount code, where one applies, reduces what you pay. It does not reduce what the driver earns — Swift absorbs it.
6. Paying for a ride
You can pay from your Swift wallet, by card or USSD through our payment provider, or in cash directly to the driver.
Once a driver accepts your booking, you have 10 minutes to pay. If you have not paid by then the booking is released automatically, nothing is charged, and you are free to book again. We do this because an unpaid booking holds a driver on a ride that is not happening and blocks you from booking anything else.
You can hold only one active ride at a time.
Money you add to your Swift wallet is held for you to spend on rides. It is not a bank deposit, it earns no interest, and it is not covered by any deposit insurance scheme. You can spend it on Swift rides and receive refunds into it.
Cash rides are settled between you and the driver. Swift never handles that money, which is why a cash ride cannot be refunded through Swift.
7. Cancelling a ride
You can cancel a ride you have booked. What happens next depends on how far along it is.
- Before a driver has committed
- Cancel freely. Anything you paid comes back in full.
- Within 15 minutes of a scheduled pickup
- Your driver has arranged their day around your ride, so the cancellation goes to them first. They can agree or refuse.
- The driver agrees to release the ride
- You get 70% of the fare back. The shortfall is what makes agreeing something other than a free loss for them.
- The driver refuses and you cancel anyway
- No refund. That is the price of overriding a driver who has already committed. Where Swift is holding the money, 50% of the fare goes to the driver for the time they lost.
- The driver cancels
- Full refund of anything you paid.
The full details of what comes back and when are in the Refund Policy, which forms part of this agreement.
8. How you must behave
Swift is used by people who let strangers into their cars. That only works on trust, so:
- Treat your driver with courtesy. Abuse, threats, harassment, or discrimination of any kind ends your account.
- Do not damage a vehicle, and do not leave it in a state the driver has to clean up. You may be asked to cover the cost.
- Do not carry anything illegal, and do not ask a driver to break the law — including speeding, exceeding the vehicle’s seating capacity, or driving somewhere unsafe.
- Wear a seatbelt. Do not distract the driver.
- Do not use Swift to arrange anything other than the journey you booked.
- Do not try to take a driver off the platform to avoid Swift, and do not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the app or its systems.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, without a refund of anything already spent. Where the law has been broken we will co-operate with the police.
9. Safety
Swift gives you tools, not guarantees. You can share a live trip link with someone you trust, save an emergency contact, see your driver’s name, photo, vehicle and plate before you get in, and reach support from inside a ride.
Check the plate against what the app shows before you enter a vehicle. If it does not match, do not get in.
In a life-threatening emergency, call 112 first. Swift support is not an emergency service.
10. Ratings, reports and disputes
After a trip you can rate your driver, and they can rate you. Ratings are used to keep the platform safe and may lead to an account being reviewed or removed.
You can report a problem from the app. Every report gets a reference beginning SWT- so you and support are talking about the same thing. We aim to look at reports within 24 hours.
If a report concerns you, we may ask you for a government ID before you book again.
11. Your account, and closing it
You can delete your data or close your account at any time from Account → Privacy & Data.
Deleting your data removes your saved places, notifications, reports and registered devices, and clears your trip list from your app. Closing your account also removes your name and email, ends every session, and stops you signing in.
Past trips are not deleted. A trip is a shared record — it is your driver’s earnings history and the trail behind a payment — so it stays intact for them and for our books. It simply disappears from your side.
We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we are required to, or if we stop operating. Where money is owed to you we will still return it.
12. What we are, and are not, responsible for
Swift is responsible for running the platform honestly: showing you real drivers, charging you the fare you agreed, holding your money properly, and paying out refunds that are due.
Swift is not responsible for the conduct of a driver, the condition or roadworthiness of a vehicle, or anything that happens during a journey. Those sit with the driver, who operates independently.
We check every driver’s identity, licence and vehicle documents before they can take a trip, and we take that seriously — but a check is not a promise about how someone will behave.
The app depends on things we do not control: your network, your device, mapping data, and our payment provider. Distances, times and arrival estimates are estimates. We do not promise the service will be available without interruption.
Nothing in these terms removes a right you have under Nigerian law that cannot be signed away.
13. Changes to these terms
We can change these terms. When we do, the version number changes and the app asks you to read and agree to the new one before you carry on.
We record which version you agreed to and when, so both of us can tell what applied to any given trip.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Disputes are subject to the courts of Abia State.
Talk to us first. Almost everything is resolved faster in a WhatsApp thread than anywhere else.
